Back to Work!

Hello! I had the baby and we are doing well. I am back to work, but I am not accepting new invitation orders at the moment. I want to get readjusted to my work schedule with the baby and see how things go so I will only be booking the few remaining orders that I currently am speaking with clients about, then I will hold off booking new invitation orders for a month or so. My schedule is open for invitations that need to ship in May and after, but I do not want to take new orders right now until I am more comfortable with my workload/ schedule. I am also booked for reception details for weddings through the end of April, so I will not be accepting new orders for weddings through the end of April. Gift Guide, Part 4

Welcome to part 4 of this year's Snippet & Ink gift guide! I think edible gifts are probably one of the most fun - to give and to receive. You can make them yourself, you can share your favorites, and you don't have to worry that the recipient won't wear them.

A family friend introduced me to Theo's Bread & Chocolate bar, and you might wonder how that works. It's dark chocolate mixed with little bits of buttery toasted breadcrumbs for crunch, and a bit of salt for contrast. I think I'm not doing it justice, so I recommend trying it for yourself, and then giving one to all the chocolate lovers in your life, for $3.25.

I'll admit that I never understood giving boxes of fruit as a gift, but that all changed last year when two things happened: I spent my first winter in a place where it snows for five months straight, and I tried Harry & David's Royal Riviera pears for the first time. For $29.95, this is a great gift to send to loved ones in need of something sweet and fresh (really, they're better than candy - and I like candy a lot).

For the new cook, how about an out-of-print cookbook? The 1975 edition of The Joy of Cooking is a favorite in my family, and my sister swears by The Classic Pasta Cookbook by Giuliano Hazan. You can find them used (try Amazon, Alibris, and eBay) for as little as $5.

If you're shopping for newlyweds, how about a retro-style picnic basket for two ($160). Or if you're looking for a totally unique gift for a foodie couple, reserve a spot at one of Outstanding in the Field's dinners (starting at $180 per person), or adopt an olive tree in their name for £65.00 a year.

A heads up...

We've already mentioned this previously, but we will be closed April 30th-May 10th for travel. The next few days are going to be quite hectic as we prepare for departure so we wanted to provide a heads up! We will have very limited internet access (if any) while overseas so we politely ask current & future clients to refrain from e-mailing us while we're away as we will not be able to respond to inquiries during this time. Instead, we have provided some basic information about how our close time will effect you:

For new orders: Please feel free to place orders while we are away with the understanding that invoices will be sent upon our return. We are accepting orders for July 25th weddings and beyond with no additional rush fees. For weddings prior to July 25th, please contact us upon our return and we'll check our availability at that time. Unfortunately we cannot accept any more rush orders for May or June weddings.

For orders scheduled to ship during our close time: not to worry, we have planned ahead and all orders originally scheduled to ship during this time (according to your original paypal invoice) will ship prior to our departure! This close time will not lengthen any turnaround times for orders scheduled to ship after our return. We've got you covered! We've also shipped out all orders for weddings up to May 16th. If you placed an order for the weekend of May 23rd your order will ship out as soon as we return and we'll be sending it via priority mail 2-3 day shipping... so again, no worries!

For monogram & logo orders: We have had our close notice on the main monogram page of our website since April 1st as unfortunately monogram & logo turnaround times will be effected as these dates (April 30th- May10th) are non-business days. We also provided additional notice on all paypal invoices for monogram/logo orders to alert you of this additional lead time prior to making your payment. Monogram & logo orders placed after April 2nd will be effected but we will work as fast as possible upon our return to get these out to you quickly!

For readers of our blog: We're not leaving you hangin'! We have some great scheduled posts planned full of yummy eye candy... AND if possible, we'll be popping in to say hello and share our adventures!

Watermelon Feta salad

Packing lunch is very difficult when you've grown up. You're conscious of people seeing your food in the communal fridge; you're conscious of people judging if you bring a bunch of fatty, unhealthy food. You want to save money, but you don't want to eat the same thing every day. Peanut butter and jelly just don't cut it like they once did, am I right?

So when I saw this recipe for a Watermelon and Feta salad on the Food Network's site, I thought, "What the hey, let's try it."

OMG, you guys. Watermelon and feta go together so perfectly, like roast beef and cheddar or chocolate and mint or Peaches and Herb. The salad was so easy to make, I'm not even going to link to the recipe because it's seriously two sentences:

1. Toss together arugula (or in my case, baby spinach), watermelon chunks, feta, red onion and if you want, olives. 
2. Drizzle with homemade vinaigrette of one part white wine vinegar to three parts olive oil, with pepper and salt. 

HANDY TIP: If you have the kind of job that, like mine, involves getting up in people's faces and asking them questions, you may want to pack some gum to negate that red onion. I was full of stank at a meeting I covered the other day and also full of regret for not anticipating that effect.

A Winter Wedding: Jen + Michael

And we're off... to a winter wedding in Philadelphia for friends Jen & Michael. Jen & Michael may just be one of the cutest couples I've ever seen, and I can't wait for the wedding. I was so excited that Jen wanted a custom aisle runner for the ceremony. A while back I wrote all about Jen's fun bridal shower and the items I.D.O. created for it (the parasol and banner) but I also mentioned the aisle runner that we'd be creating... well here it is! Jen was drawn to monogram 13D (which many of our brides are... it's definitely a popular choice) and wanted it in her colors, classy gold and black. We added a little sparkle to it just for that added special touch and love the way it turned out... we can't wait to see it in action at the wedding. We'll be back on Monday (hopefully with lots of great pictures from the wedding!) Have a great weekend!

Extra Extra!

I'm finding, as I get more into wedding blogs and magazines, that no idea I had is completely original. Google any creative thought you think you have, and you'll find someone who had it first. But I keep telling myself that's okay; as long as I don't steal from someone I know personally, I think we're good.

I had the idea to have a slight newspaper theme to our wedding, and the best way to apply that, I thought, would be with the Save-the-Dates. Ceci New York did this amazing fake little newspaper for a couple named Pam and Bryce, seen here. I love the little crossword puzzle and "coupons" for local hotels and vendors.

Board #253: Vineyard Classic

Someone once said to me that vineyard weddings are a cliché. My answer to that would be, they're a cliché the way roses are a cliché, and traditional vows, and wearing white, and having a Champagne toast. I certainly appreciate deviating from things just because that's they way they've always been done, but there is also something to be said for tradition and classic style. If you want something classic, don't avoid it just because it has been done before, because the truth is, even if you get married while skydiving or wearing a plaid wedding dress, you and your fiancé/e are the most unique thing about your wedding. I say, do what you want!

And what I wanted to do was make a classic vineyard wedding board today, full of grapes straight off the vine, and herbal details such as a lavender motif on the invitations and rosemary in the boutonnieres.
