I have known Brian pretty much FOREVER. He was the guy that introduced me and my husband back in 7th grade (yes people, 7th grade) and he was Kyle's best man at our wedding *picture below*
He had just told me that his photographic hobby has become a real passion for him! Since the beginning of this year he had talked to me about photography and he said that he wanted to start taking more pictures and experimenting with different techniques. Last month he got a really nice camera (Cannon Rebel XSI...nice!) Now I would love to someday get a SLR camera and learn a little more around taking good quality pictures. (for some reason that goes hand in hand in my head with "I want to be able to take beautiful pictures of my babies, when i have them!). But for now I am good with my Cannon point and shoot that kyle got me for Christmas (it's pink thank you very much)
Anyway I am excited to see what he comes up with this summer. I will post some of his work as soon as he sends me some to look at. He did some engagement sessions for one of his friends last month and he is taking some photography classes this summer.

It's nice when someone you love is happy and passionate about something, in some way it makes me more happy and passionate about life!
I am really sad today because I am not home for Mother's Day. I was a good girl and sent her a totally amazing gift but I would have much rather just been able to take her our for coffee and spend the day with her. Instead I had to sleep for most of the day because I worked last night. I called her and we talked but it just wasn't the same, I would have given anything to be in Rhode Island today. I will consider myself blessed when the day comes where my mother and I can be together for mothers day (and someday celebrate together when I'm a mommy too!)
My mom is one of the biggest reasons why I went into Nursing. She went to nursing school at night and got her ADN in 1992. Now that I am a nursing school graduate I have a deeper understanding/respect that she worked during the day, had class at night, and still had time for me and my brother while we were so young. I still don't understand how she did that and held on to her sanity. I had a hard enough time and I was ONLY doing school. She is my role model 100%. She is a wonderful nurse, and if I can grow up to be half of the woman she is, I would consider myself lucky
So cheers to my mom, the best mom on the whole freakin' planet!! (as far as i'm concerned!)

With his wife in a seemingly irreversible coma, Michael Smith brought his children to Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati to say goodbye to their mother before she was pulled off life support.
But Lori Smiths 8-year-old daughter Megan wasn't ready to say goodbye. Instead, she said, "Mom, if you love us and you hear us, move your eyes."
"Lori moved her eyes, and that was the first sign that I knew Lori was there," Michael Smith said. "I didn't know if Lori was being mom for the last time or what, but God really gave us a miracle and brought Lori back to us."
Remember "Meet the Fockers"? That's my life this weekend.
That's right, my parents and Sean's parents are meeting for the very first time. We've been dating for nearly 4 1/2 years, but because our families live 8 hours apart, they've never met. So Sean's parents are graciously trekking south to Abingdon to meet the fam. It promises to be awkward/awesome/hilarious and I'm pretty excited. Look forward to pictures!
One of Sean's coworkers is moving away and in honor of cheesecake being his favorite dessert, I decided to make mini cheesecakes again for movie night. But this time, I wanted to try mint chocolate chip. I skimmed a few recipes, but ultimately I went with a bastardized version of the Martha Stewart recipe.
I crushed teddy grahams again for the crust. Seriously, so good; much better than oreo crusts, in my opinion. It's buttery and more crackery (yeah, so that's not a word) than oreos, not to mention less crumbley.
To make a crust, you crush the crackers, then add sugar and melted butter and stir until the crumbs have absorbed the butter. Then pack the crumbs into baking liners and bake for 15 minutes until the crust has set.
In the meantime, I whipped up the cheesecake, which took half the time it did the first time I made it. You just beat cream cheese, then add sugar and vanilla, which is the sepia color you see above.
Then add two eggs and sour cream, which gives it that smooth consistency.
And here's where it got unfamiliar: adding extract and food coloring. I added just a teaspoon of peppermint extract and though I was convinced it wouldn't be enough, I was wrong. A teaspoon is the perfect amount!
Then I was supposed to add two drops of food coloring, but that's harder to do than it sounds. I added more like three drops and two dribbles and waited to see what would happen...
It looks perfect! Food coloring is kind of amazing; two drops yields SO much color. I added chocolate chips, which of course sunk to the bottom. As a result, some of the cheesecakes had one or two chips and some were FULL of chips.
Ready to go in the oven...
And fresh out of the oven. All those burned areas you see are a result of my sloppy pouring method. I am unskilled in keeping my baked goods neat and tidy.
After they came out, I had a notion to top them with chocolate ganache. I mixed chocolate chips and cream and voila! Ganache! It was tooooo easy, easier than it should be. But that doesn't mean I couldn't mess it up.
My error came when I enthusiastically made the ganache seconds after the cheesecakes came out of the oven. They're supposed to cool for an hour before adding the ganache, but of course they cooled for about six minutes before it was ready. Not knowing what to do, I just left it on very low heat and stirred occasionally. When I finally thought it was time to add the ganache to the cheesecakes, it had begun to separate, the thick chocolate leaving a yellow oily mess in its wake. And me being me, I went ahead and poured it onto a waiting cheesecake.
BAD IDEA. Gloopy, scary, separated mess. When it hardened, it had yellow splotches. Very disgusting. Distraught, I whined to Sean, who wisely said, "Okay, so make another batch of ganache."
Oh. Alright then.
So, this is round two of the ganache, which went decidedly better.
Messy, ganache-topped cheesecakes.
The cheesecakes are delicious, the ganache magical BUT I'm not sure it was wise to try the ganache move with mini cheesecakes. I think it would work much better with a full-size cheesecake made in a springform pan; the paper liners were buckling under its weight. Otherwise, this was awesome and I packed one for work today that was the envy of my coworker!

Someone once said to me that vineyard weddings are a cliché. My answer to that would be, they're a cliché the way roses are a cliché, and traditional vows, and wearing white, and having a Champagne toast. I certainly appreciate deviating from things just because that's they way they've always been done, but there is also something to be said for tradition and classic style. If you want something classic, don't avoid it just because it has been done before, because the truth is, even if you get married while skydiving or wearing a plaid wedding dress, you and your fiancé/e are the most unique thing about your wedding. I say, do what you want!
And what I wanted to do was make a classic vineyard wedding board today, full of grapes straight off the vine, and herbal details such as a lavender motif on the invitations and rosemary in the boutonnieres.

I can't believe that Christmas is a few hours away! Tomorrow I am making a big dinner for Kyle. Ham and sweet potatoes! One of our friends is also coming over for movies, hot chocolate and board games!
I gave out my sugar cookie-cut outs today at work with the Dels mix I got from home.
My parents called and left me a musical Christms voicemail, it almost made me cry. Not being at home is really hard around Christmas time...Maybe next year.

Wow, this thing has really gone crazy with the viewers. Let me first start by saying that this is not my house. Regardless of what any of the comments read, this house really does exist, I have seen it with my own eyes and nothing you see in the video is trickery, it's all real.
This display was the work of Carson Williams, a Mason, Ohio, electrical engineer who spent about three hours sequencing the 88 Light-O-Rama channels that controlled the 16,000 Christmas lights in his annual holiday lighting spectacular (from Christmas 2004). His 2005 display includes over 25,000 lights that he spent nearly two months and $10,000 to hook up. So that the Williams' neighbors aren't disturbed by constant noise, viewers driving by the house are informed by signs to tune in to a signal broadcast over a low-power FM radio station to hear the musical accompaniment.
The rough quality of the video has led some viewers to believe it was put together in stop-action form from still photographs, but that is an artifact of the high compression used in the clip circulated via e-mail. Mr. Williams has posted instructions for recreating his "Wizard in Winter" sequencing, and another of his choreographed Christmas light music shows can be viewed here.
Carson's Christmas display proved so popular that it was featured in a Miller Lite beer commercial in December 2005.
These photos are from one of the couples I worked with a while back to create monograms, wrap around labels and save the dates for. Joelle and Michael took the monograms I created for them and turned them into the inspiration for their entire wedding and, from the photos, everything looks beautiful! The invitations repeat the pattern I created for Joelle based on the lace for her wedding gown, and they incorporate the same colors and fonts as the save the dates. The monogram I created for them was used on the favor bags, sealing their pocketfolds and attached the the card holder. Thanks for sharing Joelle and congratulations!!!
