So I unexpectedly had the night off because yesterday my manager scheduled me for ACLS *advanced cardiac life support* certification tomorrow. (since I have to get certified soon for the Emergency room YAY!) So thankfully I was home when the UPS man brought me a box with these beauties inside
Brian also included Canon XSI for Dummies and a very helpful DVD on how to use the camera. I am definitely in the beginner beginner category but I am SO excited to practice and learn more about how the camera works so I can start to use it creatively.
I started playing around with different settings while my cats were walking around...and look what I did..

I have been IN LOVE with my Canon Rebel XSI since I got it last week. Today I had the time to take it out and start shooting just for fun (and for practice). I went to Balboa Park, which is a great place next to downtown San Diego (and adjacent to the San Diego Zoo). It is a HUGE park which is home to museums, art galleries, historic buildings, botanical gardens and a large craft center. Basically it's a mecca center for the local San Diego art scene (so an obvious choice to go and shoot).
Unfortunately I was only able to stay for a half hour because I had to leave a meet a friend for lunch (never ending pasta bowls at Olive Garden YES) but I still got some pretty good pictures.
I am only using the creative modes on my camera (the modes which you control the aperture and the shutter speed) so I can learn how to take the picture (vs. the camera taking the picture). I am planing on taking an online photography class over the next month (once I get some money haha)

It's always so hard to do designer picks as we love all the designs we create... but we'd have to go with this one for our fave design for Polka Dot Paper Shop. Owner Kerrie wanted a fresh, preppy, feminine look to her designs and wanted something a little more modern than plain old polka dots. I know this has been uploaded to Youtube already (For almost a year now?! Cripes! Pretty slow on the uptake aren't I...?), but it seemed only right I put it up myself, if just to say a few things about it... Probably my favorite AMV that I ever made.
I was dying to do another comedy based AMV and with FLCL showing on Adult Swim, I knew I could somehow connect it to Weird Al in some manner. The end result came out rather well I think. That C M S jazz was put there to cover up the [adult swim] logo, though it now seems like a pretty pointless thing to have bothered with.
This was the last AMV I put together and probably the last one I ever really intended to do.
Thanks to ZazieRainyday and all the other people that liked the video enough to put it on Youtube and the comments people have put on them.

WOW! It's officially been a year since the launch of iDoOriginals.com. It's been an amazing whirlwind of a year and I feel so fortunate for the way iDoOriginals was received by brides and wedding professionals across the nation. Jews for a Just Peace-NC http://www.jfajpnc.org/ set up a "Palestinian house demolition" tableau in front of the Durham Performing Arts Center to protest an American Dance Festival performance by the Israel-based Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company on June 17, 2010. The protesters exposed the fact that Israel's cultural exports have become a tool to divert attention from Israel's human rights violations. The setup of a demolished home guarded by Israeli soldiers returns the spotlight to those violations. It represents the more than 24,000 Palestinian homes destroyed since 1967 and symbolizes Israel's illegal occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem and the collective punishment of 1.5 million Gazans under siege due to Israel's blockade.
Sponsorship and funding for this dance company and other Israeli cultural endeavors come in part from the Israeli government, which is engaged in the Brand Israel campaign to reshape the image of Israel through public relations. Ido Aharoni, head of Israel's Foreign Ministry's brand management team, wishes to reposition "Israel away from an image of a country in a state of war and conflict to a brand which represents positive values and ideals like 'building the future,' 'vibrant diversity,' and 'entrepreneurial zeal'" (Winning the Battle of the Narrative, presented at the January 2010 Herzliya conference).
With such compromised political backing, art cannot be considered simply a positive expression of human creativity. Israeli artists performing abroad are cultural ambassadors legitimizing Israel as a whole, including its policies. These policies -- exemplified by the violent intransigence of the Netanyahu/Lieberman government -- are not in the long-term interests of Israelis, Palestinians, or Americans. Until the conflict is resolved justly, there can be no peace or security in the Middle East or elsewhere. Misleading public relations campaigns are not substitutes for constructive steps towards a just peace.
Jews for a Just Peace asks the US government to withdraw its yearly $ 3 billion support until Israel acts towards Palestinians in ways that respect their human rights as well as their internationally recognized right to self-determination. It also asks that the American Dance Festival refrain from inviting artists who provide de facto cover for policies that flout international law and human rights.

The shower was incredible, I got so many wonderful gifts and it was really great to see everyone. The favors my mom made were so cute! Mason jars filled with all of the dry ingredients for chocolate chip cooked. The labels were titled "Lovin' from the oven." All in all an amazing day with some amazing women, thanks to everyone!

I know we had a whole week of winter wedding boards last week, but how could I resist a snowy log cabin, deer-topped cupcakes, and kissing in the snow! In my mind, this intimate wedding takes place at a cozy inn, with a day of cross country skiing followed by a ceremony (maybe a short one outdoors!) and a reception full of cookies and eggnog.
Hi all! I am on an airplane today, but we have the lovely and talented Chelsea Fuss from one of my all-time favorite blogs, {frolic!}, here to share a fruit and floral autumn centerpiece that you can do yourself.
1. Gather containers from your kitchen and from friends and family. Choose a variety (3 heights, 3 finishes) but make sure there is a little bit of repetition. Here, I've chosen white bowls from my kitchen (from Crate & Barrel and Target), vintage milk bottles (from my mother's collection) and little china plates (from my grandmother). This will save on cost. Plus, all the containers can be returned to their owners filled with gorgeous blossoms or yummy fruit.
2. Find a friend with a dahlia garden (I was lucky enough to be able to cut armloads from a friend's garden right before they were ready to dig up the tubers). If you don't have a friend with a garden, dahlias in season will still be quite inexpensive at a local farm. Here, I cut only the ones that looked pretty to me and only within the same color family blush, apricot, and coral. Stick to one color per container.
3. For the roundy moundy arrangements, gather 3 or 4 blossoms in your hand and cut them very short. Sit them all together in one half of the container and make sure they are resting on the rim and then add another two or three groupings. They will hold each other up. (you can also use foam, frogs, or grids if you prefer those methods).
4. For the taller arrangements, I chose a less dense flower (single-petaled dahlia) to let it all breathe a little. Stick one or two stems in those (I have no rules about height, just clip the stem until it looks good to you). Make sure you have some that are the same for repetition's sake.
5. Lastly, pile seasonal fruits on china plates and intermix with the flower arrangements.
6. I've placed my centerpiece on a beautiful mango-colored raw silk runner. It helps to reinforce the color story and add texture. If you are a talented seamstress or have a friend or family member who sews, I suggest making colorful runners. Then you can just rent plain, floor-length linens for underneath. Or, better yet use rustic farm tables.

This is part one of a 4 part video series where we're going to explore the importance of maintaining colon health and the correlation between colon health and pH balance.
While you can re alkalize your body up by eating plenty of alkaline foods, drinking plenty of good alkaline water, and replenishing your depleted mineral and enzyme - you won't STAY in balance of realize the full benefits of a balanced body if your colon is unhealthy and out of balance.
Everything else can be right, but if you don't get your colon back to its optimal state, toxins and acids can and will return. Also, just because you take time to re alkalize your body doesn't mean that built up waste in your colon is just going to go away. You still need to go back and clean house a bit.
Your colon has one basic function... to prepare waste for elimination...this includes food waste, cellular waste, toxins and acids. In order to do an effective job, it needs five basic things:
1.An optimal working environment... which is a pH of 6.8 to 7.0. (Test your pH http://www.ph-ion.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=205 )
2.Enough moisture and fluids to keep the colon walls smooth and slick.
3.Ample minerals to hold that water in cells of the colon wall
4.Fiber to sweep away debris, and soak-up toxins and acids like a sponge.
5.And the proper enzymes to break matter down
If you go without any ONE of these elements for an extended period, a back-up of waste will occur. When this happens, you've reached the tipping point...you start the process of going FROM balance into IMBALANCE.
When waste builds up, it begins to compact (impacted colon)...and you can develop a layer of mucosal plaque underneath the waste. Toxicity starts to build, acids in your colon increase and irritate your colon walls, and pathogenic / harmful bacteria begin to grow and proliferate. No different than it would in any garbage heap.
These nasty guys start taking over. Instead of helping properly DIGEST food, they FERMENT food which increases the toxic environment. This can eventually harm or kill the good bacteria...which are extremely important to your intestinal health.
Over time, your colon can expand up to 4 times its normal size and you look and feel bloated -- these toxins and acids can then overflow into other parts of your body over time -- it's called leaky gut. This then stresses your liver and practically every other organ as acidification spreads throughout your body.
