Couture, Chic & Stylish Logos

por | | 0 comments

Couture, Chic & Stylish LogosCouture, Chic & Stylish LogosCouture, Chic & Stylish LogosCouture, Chic & Stylish LogosWe are so excited to share these we can hardly stand it. Rachelle came to us with a request for couture, chic, stylish logos for her new company. She wanted them to be feminine and she also mentioned incorporating damask or a chandelier... can we say dream client?!!! We loved all of these ideas and totally ran with them. L-O-V-E!!! Rachelle is currently waiting for all her copyrights and trademarks to go through so she asked that we not post the name of her new company yet (the real company name is pretty awesome and believe it or not these logos look even better with the real name!) so please note this is a fictitious name to protect our client's privacy. Once everything goes through we will definitely share a link to her website as we know it will be fabulously chic!

Rachelle's Feedback: "OMG!!! I just opened the email with these beautiful works of art! You have captured the very essence of my vision, now I know how your many satisfied brides feel for their magical day. Thank you for your dilgence in turning these around for me. Now the hard part is selecting the best one that represents the our brand."

Love Letter curtains from Anthropologie

por | | 0 comments

Love Letter curtains from AnthropologieI'm pretty easy to please. Slap some handwriting or typography on an item of decor and I'm coveting it immediately. Anthropologie always seems to know my heartsong; their new catalog features the Adorations curtain for $158 to $198.

The curtains feature bits and pieces of love letters — perfect for a bedroom, but I could picture these curtains anywhere. They're just traditional enough to go with any color scheme and just fun enough to merit a second look.

Title: Love Letters - An Animated Proposal - v2.0

I produced this animation as a way of proposing to my girlfriend (now wife) Natasha. I assembled a team of 20 animators to assist me, including co-workers, as well as students from my 3D character animation class at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco. We created more than four minutes of animation in just three months. When it was completed, I surprised Natasha by bringing her to the Parkway Movie Theater in Oakland, where they played the animation on the big screen in front of over 100 of our friends and family. The entire event was filmed for the TLC television show "A Perfect Proposal."

Director's Note: I pulled a George Lucas and retrofitted the opening shot of the animation to show a photo of the Natasha design from "The Invitation" rather than the earlier drawing of Natsha I had done, which I was never quite satisfied with. Also, after receiving many a tersely written emails, I finally decided to listen to the fans and have completely removed all scenes with Jar Jar Binks.

FAQs:

Q: "What software program did you use to create your animations?"

A: All animation was done in Maya and edited together in Adobe After Effects. You can download a Personal Learning Edition of Maya free from the Autodesk website.

As we were scrolling through pages and pages of captivating images of weddings, engagement portraits, and bridal shoots, we found photos of Megan & Kyle's wedding... we recognized their logo right away. The couple already had their own logo when they came to us in Spring of '08 and we were happy to put in on an aisle runner for them. We love how they incorporated it into all their little details... from the wreaths on the front door to the gobo projected behind their beautiful cake, their cookie favors & cups, and even on the fruit display! Super cute and creative. A huge thank you to Inara Studios for allowing us to use their incredible images and a big congratulations to Megan & Kyle!

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)

por | | 0 comments

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)It's true internets! I baked! It was pretty wild. Of course, I started simple: strawberry cake mix, with strawberry frosting.

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)I did it! I made batter! Even though I didn't know the difference between blend and beat on my hand mixer.

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)So, this is where I need your help: I have NO idea how I'm supposed to get the batter into those tiny little cups without thousands of spills. I spilled so much batter, and poured so unevenly, that I only had enough for 22 cupcakes. I sorta got the hang of it by the end, but I still don't know how you guys manage it!

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)But look! Cupcakes! Lack of pouring skills aside, they still taste like cupcakes.

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)And this is where things went a little bit awry. I thought it would be cute to try the cut-plastic-bag trick and make little icing swirls, but I had accidentally bought whipped icing, so it came out looking like poop.

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)Little piles of smooth icing poop. Lesson learned: pipe thicker frosting, smooth thinner icing.

Strawberry Cupcakes (with icing poop)I finally got the hang of it (right at the end, of course) and sprinkled some red sugar on top.

Now....what do I do with all of these cupcakes?

Candace Nelson on The View From The Bay with Spencer Christian and Janelle Wang making Sprinkles Strawberry Cupcakes.

Recipe:
Sprinkles Strawberry Cupcakes
Makes 1 dozen

1 ½ cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp kosher salt
4 oz unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg, at room temperature
2 large egg whites, at room temperature
¼ cup whole milk, at room temperature
¼ cup pureed strawberries (use all-natural frozen that have been thawed)
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Fill a 12 cup cupcake pan with cupcake liners

Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside

Add vanilla and strawberry puree to milk and set aside

In standing mixer, cream butter and sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy

Slowly add egg and egg whites and mix on medium speed until blended

With mixer on low speed, add half the flour mixture until just blended

Add milk mixture and mix just until blended

Add remaining flour mixture and mix just until blended. Scrape down bowl to make sure entire mixture is smooth.

Divide batter between 12 cupcake cups and bake for approx 22 minutes or until tops are just dry to the touch

Sprinkles Strawberry Frosting
Frosts 1 dozen

2 sticks (½ lb) unsalted butter, firm but not cold
1/8 tsp kosher salt
3 ½ cups confectioners sugar, sifted
½ tsp pure vanilla extract
2 tbsp pureed strawberries (use all-natural frozen that have been thawed)

Beat butter and salt on medium speed until light and fluffy

Reduce speed and gradually add confectioner's sugar and beat until incorporated

Add vanilla and strawberry puree and mix until blended. Do not overmix, or the frosting will incorporate too much air. The consistency should be dense and creamy, like ice-cream

Beautiful Chaos

por | | 0 comments

Beautiful ChaosA good photographer can make chaos appear beautiful. As our one year anniversary is nearing I keep looking back at our wedding photographs and this one always stands out to me (credit to our fabulous photographers at Enigma Pro of course). Even after all my meticulous planning and creating timelines and schedules for everyone in the bridal party, we somehow ended up running late. Thankfully my wonderful group of bridesmaids and my mom got me into my gown and completely dressed from head to toe in mere seconds. Talk about chaotic! I had hands all over me pulling, pushing, squeezing, tying, buttoning, poking, you name it my girls were on it! I thought I would definitely get a good laugh when the pictures came back but I was shocked when I saw how beautifully my photographer captured this chaos! True genius.

So what’s the moral of this story? When selecting your wedding photographer, choose someone that you feel comfortable with and also someone who has the ability to remain calm and capture the beauty of the day in all its chaotic glory. Since we officically have 10 days left until our 1 year anniversary I'm going to highlight the fabulousness of our photographers and try to post one of my favorite pictures from the wedding each day... now how do I choose?!

Centerpiece from Chelsea Fuss

por | | 0 comments

Hi all! I am on an airplane today, but we have the lovely and talented Chelsea Fuss from one of my all-time favorite blogs, {frolic!}, here to share a fruit and floral autumn centerpiece that you can do yourself.

Centerpiece from Chelsea Fuss
1. Gather containers from your kitchen and from friends and family. Choose a variety (3 heights, 3 finishes) but make sure there is a little bit of repetition. Here, I've chosen white bowls from my kitchen (from Crate & Barrel and Target), vintage milk bottles (from my mother's collection) and little china plates (from my grandmother). This will save on cost. Plus, all the containers can be returned to their owners filled with gorgeous blossoms or yummy fruit.

2. Find a friend with a dahlia garden (I was lucky enough to be able to cut armloads from a friend's garden right before they were ready to dig up the tubers). If you don't have a friend with a garden, dahlias in season will still be quite inexpensive at a local farm. Here, I cut only the ones that looked pretty to me and only within the same color family blush, apricot, and coral. Stick to one color per container.

3. For the roundy moundy arrangements, gather 3 or 4 blossoms in your hand and cut them very short. Sit them all together in one half of the container and make sure they are resting on the rim and then add another two or three groupings. They will hold each other up. (you can also use foam, frogs, or grids if you prefer those methods).

Centerpiece from Chelsea Fuss
4. For the taller arrangements, I chose a less dense flower (single-petaled dahlia) to let it all breathe a little. Stick one or two stems in those (I have no rules about height, just clip the stem until it looks good to you). Make sure you have some that are the same for repetition's sake.

5. Lastly, pile seasonal fruits on china plates and intermix with the flower arrangements.

6. I've placed my centerpiece on a beautiful mango-colored raw silk runner. It helps to reinforce the color story and add texture. If you are a talented seamstress or have a friend or family member who sews, I suggest making colorful runners. Then you can just rent plain, floor-length linens for underneath. Or, better yet use rustic farm tables.

A huge thank you to Chelsea for stopping by today and sharing your creativity with us! If you're in the Portland area and are looking for someone to design your next party (or wedding!), then Chelsea's your girl - she is now taking on small events for 2009. You can read all about it here, and check out her portfolio here.

Title: Optimal Colon Health - The Centerpiece of pH Balance

Optimal Colon Health - The centerpiece of pH balance - (part 1)
http://www.ph-ion.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=282

This is part one of a 4 part video series where we're going to explore the importance of maintaining colon health and the correlation between colon health and pH balance.

While you can re alkalize your body up by eating plenty of alkaline foods, drinking plenty of good alkaline water, and replenishing your depleted mineral and enzyme - you won't STAY in balance of realize the full benefits of a balanced body if your colon is unhealthy and out of balance.

Everything else can be right, but if you don't get your colon back to its optimal state, toxins and acids can and will return. Also, just because you take time to re alkalize your body doesn't mean that built up waste in your colon is just going to go away. You still need to go back and clean house a bit.

Your colon has one basic function... to prepare waste for elimination...this includes food waste, cellular waste, toxins and acids. In order to do an effective job, it needs five basic things:

1.An optimal working environment... which is a pH of 6.8 to 7.0. (Test your pH http://www.ph-ion.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=205 )
2.Enough moisture and fluids to keep the colon walls smooth and slick.
3.Ample minerals to hold that water in cells of the colon wall
4.Fiber to sweep away debris, and soak-up toxins and acids like a sponge.
5.And the proper enzymes to break matter down

If you go without any ONE of these elements for an extended period, a back-up of waste will occur. When this happens, you've reached the tipping point...you start the process of going FROM balance into IMBALANCE.

When waste builds up, it begins to compact (impacted colon)...and you can develop a layer of mucosal plaque underneath the waste. Toxicity starts to build, acids in your colon increase and irritate your colon walls, and pathogenic / harmful bacteria begin to grow and proliferate. No different than it would in any garbage heap.

These nasty guys start taking over. Instead of helping properly DIGEST food, they FERMENT food which increases the toxic environment. This can eventually harm or kill the good bacteria...which are extremely important to your intestinal health.

Over time, your colon can expand up to 4 times its normal size and you look and feel bloated -- these toxins and acids can then overflow into other parts of your body over time -- it's called leaky gut. This then stresses your liver and practically every other organ as acidification spreads throughout your body.

Watch Part two of this video series titled "Colon Cleansing -- How to do it the right way " to learn HOW to properly rid your colon of compacted waste, acids, toxins, harmful bacteria, and mucosal plaque AND restore your colon... and your whole body...back to a healthy and vibrant state!
