Our Dream Home!

Our Dream Home!
Usually I try to refrain from writing posts about my personal life; however, I'm so nervous right now I just gotta do something to make myself feel better and I know that posting will (hopefully) give me that relief! Why am I so nervous you ask? Last night the hubby and I decided to put an offer in on our dream home! We've been watching this home being built for a few weeks now and we have completely fallen head over heels for it. We find ourselves driving up to the neighborhood every chance we get and just walking around the house. Everytime we get there we don't want to leave. One night we just sat on the stoop in the garage for a good half hour or more talking about how wonderful it would be for the home to be ours. I know I know, we probably sound crazy right? Well we're definitely crazy about this house! Hopefully we'll find out this evening if our offer was accepted. Until then I'm trying to refrain from biting off all my nails in anticipation. Hopefully I'll be writing another post soon with good news! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Cape Cod Day 1

Today I woke up early and we were on the Road to the Outer Cape by early lunch. My Mom and Dad drove together in my mothers car and my brother and I drove up in my brothers/my old car. We are big believers in Toyota cars and everyone in my family owns one (except my husband, but we’ll convert him haha). When I was in college my parents bought a 1997 Toyota Corolla and I drove it all through college, it was my first car. It always got me from here to there with no problems. Now it has about 140,000 miles on it and my brother is having a good time improving it and tinkering with it. Now it has a huge subwoofer in the trunk and a new sound deck in the dashboard.

Anyway we made it up to Cape Cod around 2:00 and met up with my Grandparents and my Aunt and Uncle. We always stay at the Even'tide Motel which is a motel with cottages in Wellfleet, MA. My grandparents and my Aunt and Uncle had cottages and my parents and I stayed in a suite. It was nice and comfy. We went to Arnold's Clam Shack for dinner. It is a Cape Cod staple for FRESH fried seafood....delicious!

I took some photos of the greenery I saw at the motel, I miss maple leaves!

I'm so sorry for such a late post today - I just got back from New York late last night, and have so much catching up to do! Anyway, I thought we'd end our week of winter wedding inspiration with red and white - peppermint sticks, pomegranates and seeds, poinsettias, and a hit of red lipstick of course. This one might be a little too Christmas-y for a wedding, but it could certainly make for a sweet holiday party!

Wonderful Week

I brought my family to the airport yesterday and dropped them off. It was so hard to say goodbye to them (I did get teary when I hugged my mom and she totally lost it haha) I couldn't have asked for a better week. What a great way to stagger up the time of Kyle's deployment with a nice visit from my family (combined with a week off of work!)

They made it back to Little Rhody safe and sound (after a 2 hour delay ouch!) and my father-in-law picked them up and gave them a lift home. My mom still hasn't fully recovered from her sinus infection but being home will give her some time to recover fully.

So it's back home with them and back to work for me. I had today to do laundry and clean up the apartment and just relax. Days that are hard to come by especially now that my job is changing. I'm back to the unit tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will only be on the floor for two more pay periods (about a month) then I will be out and down in the ED. I still need to interview with the manager down there. I am hoping there will be an e-mail from her when I go into work tomorrow.

Double Chocolate Chip Macademia Nut Cookies

Don't they look heavenly? It's almost like a white light is shining in on them! I made these beauties to celebrate my family's arrival. They are my brother's all time FAVORITE.

Double Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped dry roasted macadamia nuts

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the vanilla. Gradually blend in the sifted ingredients. Mix in the white chocolate and semisweet chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Looking onward and upward

I have pretty much been unsatisfied with my job for the last couple of months. The only thing that is keeping me there are the people I work with. I have never seen a unit of nurses and CNA's that are so committed to each other, and I know that I will never work in such an environment again. Never the less I am itching for a change, for a job with better hours

for a job in the ER

for those of you that have been following the blog for sometime know that I have jumped back and forth from Maternal/Child Nursing and Emergency nursing for awhile. Everything from Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, NICU, and ER nursing have been put in the mix. I have attempted to get into L&D in San Diego, but it is very difficult to get into that field when you have no previous L&D experience. So I went back to the ER, which is what I wanted to do in college anyway. I figure I will work in the ER for a year or two then go back to L&D because I definitely see myself working in L&D or Mother Baby for the majority of my career. (after all I'm only a year in and I have about 35-40 years before retirement haha)

I ::shhh:: have already applied for a ER training program starting in October. My parents are coming to visit the 3rd week in August and after they leave I am diving into "operation Sara gets an ER job" head first. September will be spend applying and interviewing and October will be orientation, just in time for Kyle to come home in November.

I WILL get a job in an ER somewhere in San Diego, I just don't know where yet :-D
