Experiments with the XSI - Balboa Park

I have been IN LOVE with my Canon Rebel XSI since I got it last week. Today I had the time to take it out and start shooting just for fun (and for practice). I went to Balboa Park, which is a great place next to downtown San Diego (and adjacent to the San Diego Zoo). It is a HUGE park which is home to museums, art galleries, historic buildings, botanical gardens and a large craft center. Basically it's a mecca center for the local San Diego art scene (so an obvious choice to go and shoot).

Unfortunately I was only able to stay for a half hour because I had to leave a meet a friend for lunch (never ending pasta bowls at Olive Garden YES) but I still got some pretty good pictures.

I am only using the creative modes on my camera (the modes which you control the aperture and the shutter speed) so I can learn how to take the picture (vs. the camera taking the picture). I am planing on taking an online photography class over the next month (once I get some money haha)

Sunday Best v.1

Love this picture! This is a shot by The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman, of his girlfriend, Garance Dore taking a picture of a stylish girl on the street. Life imitating art, non?

Many other bigger and better and more renown bloggers do this, but because I have been a lazy blogger of late, I thought it would be nice to share some of my favorite tidbits of the week. Most bloggers run these round-ups on Fridays, but lazy Sundays are about the only time I have to post these days, so I'm going to call this feature "Sunday Best" and hopefully it will keep my five devoted readers sated!

Sunday Best

1. A gorgeous wedding dress for $194!

2. Still loving the Bauhaus-style jewelry from I. Ronni Kappos.

3. Gorgeous Family Trees, via Design Sponge.

4. Loving that journalists still come to blows over weak writing.

5. Had an amazing sandwich at The Cheese Shop, my first trip there in years. If you've never been, it's a must-stop.

6. Stopped into Williamsburg at Home, a decor store with WILLIAMSBURG licensed products. Never thought of Colonial style as my thing, but I was drooling over the ticking stripe bedskirt.

7. In honor of Sesame Street's 40th anniversary, I give you an old favorite: Luis and Maria ballroom dancing. I almost cried when I found this; such a cherished memory!

8. If you're in the Tidewater area, go check out a very cool Warhol exhibit at the Muscarelle.

9. Sean's beard has a fan club.

10. Speaking of which, bemoan the horrific Redskins season with my beloved over at his blog, Eat Sleep Redskins.

I promise to be a better blogger! I'm officially getting my stuff together this week. Seriously.

New Stamps!!

Today I got my first roller stamp in the mail. I started stamping for my wedding invitations (they were embossed) Now that I am getting into making cards I wanted to get some more stamps. I found Stampin' Up! online and I saw these stamping wheels and I decided to get one to see how it worked.

It's really cool!

Nice Clean lines. And I did that in about 10 seconds :-)

3. You will end up at the Ski Village so you can start your cold adventure.

Here's how to find the Chill Treck Hat:
1. Go to the Ski Village.
2. Waddle to the Mountain Expedition entrance.
3. Waddle to the box that has a poster that says "FREE".
4. Click yes to receive the Chill Treck Hat.

Here's how to find the Red Flag:
1. Go to the Ski Village.
2. Waddle to the Mountain Expedition entrance.
3. Go to the top of the mountain.
4. Waddle to the box that has a poster that says "FREE".

Here's how to find the Top of the Mountain Background:
1. Go to the Ski Village.
2. Waddle to the Mountain Expedition entrance.
3. Click on the camera to get your picture taken.
4. Click yes to receive the background.

Rooms:

1. Supply Camp
2. Ice Cavern
3. Base Camp
4. Mountain
5. Mountain Top

To get pass the Icicles all you have to do is click on the icicles a few times after you have clicked the icicles a few times it will open and you should be at Base Camp.

Now you have waddle all the way to the top. You will be in another tricky room. Here is how to get pass this room.

After you get there there will be a twig/branch. Click it and and click it until the axe is out of the snow. When the axe is out, click it over and over to knock over the tree stump. Throw at least 3 snowballs at the icicles to make them fall.

Gongrats! You have reached the top of the mountain!

How to get to the secret room:

1. Go to the room where it has the axe and the twig.
2. Click on the ice rock on the bottom right corner of the screen.

10 Years of Summer Sisters

Today I'm hitting the road with my lifelong best friend, Jamie. Jamie and I celebrated our 15th friendiversary last fall by going to see New Kids on the Block, as you can see in the above picture. It was awesome. 

Jamie and I sat beside each other in the fourth grade. We pretended we were married to Dean Cain (Me) and Jonathan Taylor Thomas (her). We fell in love with NSYNC and saw them an embarrassing amount of times in concert. We swam every day of the summer of 96, taking breaks only to watch Days of Our Lives. We took ballet together. We went on our first dates together. She's my maid of honor.

In the summer of 99, Jamie accompanied me to New Jersey to visit my grandparents and go to New York. It became an annual summer tradition; together, we've traveled to NJ/NY five times, to DC twice, to Memphis, Atlanta, Charleston, Lexington, KY, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Charlotte, Virginia Beach and who knows where else. We went to Graceland together, and almost cried! Today, we're hitting the road to go to NJ/NY, to sleep in twin beds in "our" room at my grandparents' house. I am SOOOO excited. 

I've still got some blog entries scheduled to go up this week, so stay tuned. 

We'll be seeing our good buddy Bret, who lives in NYC.

School's (almost) Out for Summer!

Just cause we can all use something to look at while we read, above are some of my most recent creations!

And now for a glimpse into my personal life: So as most of you know by now, my "real job" is a school counselor at an elementary school (well, 3 elementary schools actually) and iDoOriginals.com is my "fun job." I am so excited to say that in 2.5 days school is officially out for summer and I can begin focusing even more attention on all my lovely brides! I can't wait to spend the whole summer being crafty! YAY! I wish I could say that was all I was planning on doing, but the summer holds a lot:

- selling our house

- buying a brand new house (yippee!)

- nine birthdays

- two weddings

- an engagement party

- one graduation

- and a partridge in a pear tree

I can't wait for summer to officially begin! Oh and want some more good news? The great blog Weddings by Socialites recently blogged about us- what a nice honor!
