New Toys

por | | 0 comments

So I unexpectedly had the night off because yesterday my manager scheduled me for ACLS *advanced cardiac life support* certification tomorrow. (since I have to get certified soon for the Emergency room YAY!) So thankfully I was home when the UPS man brought me a box with these beauties inside

Photobucket

Brian also included Canon XSI for Dummies and a very helpful DVD on how to use the camera. I am definitely in the beginner beginner category but I am SO excited to practice and learn more about how the camera works so I can start to use it creatively.

I started playing around with different settings while my cats were walking around...and look what I did..

Alex.

I STILL can't believe I actually took that picture...I'm so proud of myself!

That camera will be attached to my face while my family is here next week

Board #245: Hot Pink & Gold

por | | 0 comments

I've been wanting to do an inspiration board in these colors for awhile, and the gorgeous photo of the gold shoes and hot pink tulle was just the push I needed to finally put it together. This color combination channels a sort of retro vibe (1950's or 1980's, I can't figure out which), and I love the balance between refined gold and playful hot pink. For this wedding, I imagine champagne and an abundant dessert buffet, piled with Parisian macarons, a traditional croquembouche, and countless other goodies. Maybe a gelato cart for good measure. And, if it's entirely too sweet for your wedding, consider it for a bridal shower instead!

Mood: retro chic, playfully refined
Palette: hot pink, gold

A splash of color: Erie Basin ring

por | | 0 comments

A splash of color: Erie Basin ring
Is it wrong to really want this ring as my wedding band? This gem is an 1830s Georgian turquoise ring available at Erie Basin, which is, btw, the most well-edited jewelry store on the web. Everything is unique, mysterious and even a little macabre, like the jewelry came out of an Edward Gorey drawing.

$385, size 8 (JUST MY SIZE!)

Sunday Best v.1

por | | 0 comments

Sunday Best v.1Love this picture! This is a shot by The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman, of his girlfriend, Garance Dore taking a picture of a stylish girl on the street. Life imitating art, non?

Many other bigger and better and more renown bloggers do this, but because I have been a lazy blogger of late, I thought it would be nice to share some of my favorite tidbits of the week. Most bloggers run these round-ups on Fridays, but lazy Sundays are about the only time I have to post these days, so I'm going to call this feature "Sunday Best" and hopefully it will keep my five devoted readers sated!

Sunday Best
1. A gorgeous wedding dress for $194!
2. Still loving the Bauhaus-style jewelry from I. Ronni Kappos.
3. Gorgeous Family Trees, via Design Sponge.
4. Loving that journalists still come to blows over weak writing.
5. Had an amazing sandwich at The Cheese Shop, my first trip there in years. If you've never been, it's a must-stop.
6. Stopped into Williamsburg at Home, a decor store with WILLIAMSBURG licensed products. Never thought of Colonial style as my thing, but I was drooling over the ticking stripe bedskirt.
7. In honor of Sesame Street's 40th anniversary, I give you an old favorite: Luis and Maria ballroom dancing. I almost cried when I found this; such a cherished memory!
8. If you're in the Tidewater area, go check out a very cool Warhol exhibit at the Muscarelle.
9. Sean's beard has a fan club.
10. Speaking of which, bemoan the horrific Redskins season with my beloved over at his blog, Eat Sleep Redskins.

I promise to be a better blogger! I'm officially getting my stuff together this week. Seriously.

Title: Leandria Johnson singing a Medley of songs at Sunday Best 3 Finale

Leandria sings three songs from her past performances on Sunday Best 3 Finale. She is pure spirit-filled talent. Her life's profile is a blessing. She is featured on a CD by Elder Jimmy Hicks who is based out of Florida. I purchased the song she sings and there is no doubt God's presence is with her during this recording. The name of the CD is "Born Blessed" and the name of the song is "Praises Go Up Feat. Leandrea Johnson Thomas". The name is spelled different but I did find her on his website under featured artists. Wedding Website Therapy

por | | 0 comments

I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned that in my "real life" I'm a school counselor. So when I came across this website I knew I would just have to share. The website is called "True Bride Confessions" and it's a forum where brides (past, present, and future) can annomously post about anything going on in their lives that they need to confess. Confession is, in my opinion, an extremely theraputic outlet. So often we hold in what we are thinking or feeling... sometimes we do this because we're embarassed of our thoughts and feelings, or most likely, we don't want to burden anyone else with our problems. What we don't realize is that by keeping things in we're placing a heavy burden on ourselves. It's time to let it out! Go and vent about your overbearing future mother-in-law or your lazy fiance who refuses to help with any of the planning... take advantage of this great outlet! The best part is... it's completely anonymous- so no one will ever know! Don't have anything to vent? Go check it out anyway- you may be able to relate to some of the confessions and hey, some of them may even make you feel better about your own life! *warning: some foul language
Wedding Website Therapy

"TrueBrideConfessions is the first ever online confessional for brides, brides-to-be or brides -who've –been. A place for women planning or reminiscing about their joyful wedding days who need to vent but don't want to ripple the wedding waters." -www.truebrideconfessions.com
