I.D.O. Spotlight: A Fairy Tale Wedding

por | | 0 comments

I.D.O. Spotlight: A Fairy Tale WeddingBride Jessica came to us with the graphic her invitation designer had created for her fairy tale wedding. We were able to recreate the design onto an aisle runner for her and it turned out so pretty! You can't really tell from this picture but the silver outline of the shoe is glittery for that little extra sparkle and shine! Best wishes to Jessica & Brian, we know their wedding will be a dream come true and we can't wait to have them as one of our Featured Couples as their wedding will be our first "Fairy Tale Feature!"

Title: Berlinale 2010: "I Shot My Love" Trailer (Berlin Film Festival Feature)

As part of our culture-gems spotlight, we're featuring one of the most thought provoking and highly discussed foreign independent movies at the recent Berlin Film Festival 2010, the Berlinale. A unique different look at a modern German-Israeli love affair.

Seventy years after his grandfather escapes from Nazi Germany to Palestine, Israeli documentary director Tomer Heymann returns to the country of his ancestors to present his film Paper Dolls at the Berlin International Film Festival, and there meets a man who will change his life.

This 48-hour love affair, originating in Berghain Panorama Bar, develops into a significant relationship between Tomer and Andreas Merk, a German dancer. When Andreas decides to move to Tel-Aviv, he not only has to cope with a new partner, but to manage the complex realities of life in Israel and his personal connection to it as a German citizen.

Tomer's mother, descendent of German immigrants was born and lived all her life in a small Israeli village, where she raised five sons. One by one, she watches her children leave the country she and her family helped to build, and now cannot help but try to influence the life of Tomer, the one son who remains.

I SHOT MY LOVE tells a personal but universal love story and follows the triangular relationship between Tomer, his German boyfriend, and his intensely Israeli mother.

* Written and directed by: Tomer Heymann
* Producers: Barak Heymann, Tomer Heymann
* Co-producer: Carl-Ludwig Rettinger
* Commissioning Editor: Sabine Rollberg
* Research: Tali-Shamir Werzberger
* Cameraman: Tomer Heymann
* Editor: Ido Mochrick
* Original Score: Israel Bright & Eran Weitz

The film was co-produced with WDR/ARTE and was fund by The New Foundation for Cinema & T.V, The Jewish Theatre Stockholm, Foundation for Jewish Culture and Gesher Multicultural Film Fund.

Guest Blogger: Sasha from Sparkliatti, Part 2

Sometimes it’s okay not to take your wedding too seriously…a case in point is Deanna & Julian.

Guest Blogger: Sasha from Sparkliatti, Part 2
{photos by Anna Kilbridge}

Don’t get me wrong, they wanted their wedding to be stylish and beautiful but they wanted to have a great time doing it. Having a mostly artistic crowd for their wedding, they chose a vineyard with amazing views in the Russian River area of the Northern California Wine Country.

But what Deanna did that was different than most brides is that she made sure
she had an amazing, fun experience that day in addition to providing her guests with the same. Deanna loved being in her wedding gown and her images reflect the fun she had romping around in the vineyards.

Further, we created a photo op wall with frames & wallpaper which was similar to the damask printed table linens. This photo op wall was staffed by a dedicated photographer and the guests (and vendors) had a super fun time in the wall taking images. What I loved most about that wall was that it actually looked like the wall of your house with family photos hung in a variety of frames – but it was alive with the guests from the wedding. So fun.

Everything about the wedding reflected the mix of the vintage glamorous with rustic. By utilizing different shapes in the bouquets, flower girl kissing ball and centerpieces we were able to keep it interesting. They also chose not to serve cake but instead do a variety of pies including the groom’s favorite, Concord Grape pie.

Thank you to Sasha for sharing these beautiful weddings with us! And if you haven't already, you should definitely stop by Sasha Souza Events and Sparkliatti for more gorgeous and creative inspiration!

PB Teen Task Lamps

PB Teen Task LampsLove, love, love the Hi-Light Task Lamp from Pottery Barn Teen, which will run you $65 on sale. Apartment Therapy had a post on this, mentioning that all the teen decor stuff is on sale for back to school shopping right now.

It comes in white, light green, yellow, ice blue, red, silver, navy, black and brown. I'll take two in ice blue, please.

Side note: If you like the occasionally twee and often colorful home accessories, kids and teen catalogs can be great resources. I have some very bright and very festive multicolor chevron sheets from Pottery Barn, and The Land of Nod has some very smart storage solution. If it works for kids, it'll work for you, and these kids seem to be pint-size sophisticates.

Our Dream Home!

por | | 0 comments

Our Dream Home!
Usually I try to refrain from writing posts about my personal life; however, I'm so nervous right now I just gotta do something to make myself feel better and I know that posting will (hopefully) give me that relief! Why am I so nervous you ask? Last night the hubby and I decided to put an offer in on our dream home! We've been watching this home being built for a few weeks now and we have completely fallen head over heels for it. We find ourselves driving up to the neighborhood every chance we get and just walking around the house. Everytime we get there we don't want to leave. One night we just sat on the stoop in the garage for a good half hour or more talking about how wonderful it would be for the home to be ours. I know I know, we probably sound crazy right? Well we're definitely crazy about this house! Hopefully we'll find out this evening if our offer was accepted. Until then I'm trying to refrain from biting off all my nails in anticipation. Hopefully I'll be writing another post soon with good news! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

2 Months

por | | 0 comments

Photobucket

I cannot believe that it has been 2 months since my wedding day. It seems like it was only yesterday that I was on the alter of my childhood Church surrounded by my family and friends, telling the man I love that I will continue to love him for the rest of my life. Now I have played wife for two months and I think I am getting used to the role, as a matter of fact, I might like it!

People have asked about how married life is treating us, and I think we are adapting quite well.
Sometimes when I get home from work and Kyle is already asleep I lie in bed and look at his left hand with his wedding ring on it. I can feel my heart swell up with love when he hugs me. Our relationship was filled with love before, but the dynamic has completely changed. It is almost as if the sense of commitment that our relationship is now founded on has made us even more in love.

Our day to day life hasn't really changed all that much, since we were living together before the wedding. He still goes to work, then later that day I go to work. He is still asleep on the couch when I get home from work at 12am. The only major change I can say is the combining of the finances, and obtaining "Navy Wife status." Now my car has decals on it so I can get on the Navy base myself (schwing!)

The best decision I have ever made was that day 11 months ago when I woke up and walked to the beach in my PJs, and found my dream had come true....
..the man of my dreams on one knee with a ring...and I said yes....

Board #326: Love and Warmth (and a winner...)

por | | 0 comments

First off, since I still haven't heard from the winner of the Beau-coup giveaway, we've got a new winner! Bo who said, i love the whole leaf tea sachet favors. they are in such elegant pyramid shaped boxes with a leaf sticking out on top. i picture them being used as favors in a winter wedding with a lunch reception, along with vintage teacups. Bo, email me to claim your prize!

I know we had a whole week of winter wedding boards last week, but how could I resist a snowy log cabin, deer-topped cupcakes, and kissing in the snow! In my mind, this intimate wedding takes place at a cozy inn, with a day of cross country skiing followed by a ceremony (maybe a short one outdoors!) and a reception full of cookies and eggnog.

Mood: warm and cozy
Palette: eggnog, nutmeg

Centerpiece from Chelsea Fuss

por | | 0 comments

Hi all! I am on an airplane today, but we have the lovely and talented Chelsea Fuss from one of my all-time favorite blogs, {frolic!}, here to share a fruit and floral autumn centerpiece that you can do yourself.

Centerpiece from Chelsea Fuss
1. Gather containers from your kitchen and from friends and family. Choose a variety (3 heights, 3 finishes) but make sure there is a little bit of repetition. Here, I've chosen white bowls from my kitchen (from Crate & Barrel and Target), vintage milk bottles (from my mother's collection) and little china plates (from my grandmother). This will save on cost. Plus, all the containers can be returned to their owners filled with gorgeous blossoms or yummy fruit.

2. Find a friend with a dahlia garden (I was lucky enough to be able to cut armloads from a friend's garden right before they were ready to dig up the tubers). If you don't have a friend with a garden, dahlias in season will still be quite inexpensive at a local farm. Here, I cut only the ones that looked pretty to me and only within the same color family blush, apricot, and coral. Stick to one color per container.

3. For the roundy moundy arrangements, gather 3 or 4 blossoms in your hand and cut them very short. Sit them all together in one half of the container and make sure they are resting on the rim and then add another two or three groupings. They will hold each other up. (you can also use foam, frogs, or grids if you prefer those methods).

Centerpiece from Chelsea Fuss
4. For the taller arrangements, I chose a less dense flower (single-petaled dahlia) to let it all breathe a little. Stick one or two stems in those (I have no rules about height, just clip the stem until it looks good to you). Make sure you have some that are the same for repetition's sake.

5. Lastly, pile seasonal fruits on china plates and intermix with the flower arrangements.

6. I've placed my centerpiece on a beautiful mango-colored raw silk runner. It helps to reinforce the color story and add texture. If you are a talented seamstress or have a friend or family member who sews, I suggest making colorful runners. Then you can just rent plain, floor-length linens for underneath. Or, better yet use rustic farm tables.

A huge thank you to Chelsea for stopping by today and sharing your creativity with us! If you're in the Portland area and are looking for someone to design your next party (or wedding!), then Chelsea's your girl - she is now taking on small events for 2009. You can read all about it here, and check out her portfolio here.

Title: Optimal Colon Health - The Centerpiece of pH Balance

Optimal Colon Health - The centerpiece of pH balance - (part 1)
http://www.ph-ion.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=282

This is part one of a 4 part video series where we're going to explore the importance of maintaining colon health and the correlation between colon health and pH balance.

While you can re alkalize your body up by eating plenty of alkaline foods, drinking plenty of good alkaline water, and replenishing your depleted mineral and enzyme - you won't STAY in balance of realize the full benefits of a balanced body if your colon is unhealthy and out of balance.

Everything else can be right, but if you don't get your colon back to its optimal state, toxins and acids can and will return. Also, just because you take time to re alkalize your body doesn't mean that built up waste in your colon is just going to go away. You still need to go back and clean house a bit.

Your colon has one basic function... to prepare waste for elimination...this includes food waste, cellular waste, toxins and acids. In order to do an effective job, it needs five basic things:

1.An optimal working environment... which is a pH of 6.8 to 7.0. (Test your pH http://www.ph-ion.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=205 )
2.Enough moisture and fluids to keep the colon walls smooth and slick.
3.Ample minerals to hold that water in cells of the colon wall
4.Fiber to sweep away debris, and soak-up toxins and acids like a sponge.
5.And the proper enzymes to break matter down

If you go without any ONE of these elements for an extended period, a back-up of waste will occur. When this happens, you've reached the tipping point...you start the process of going FROM balance into IMBALANCE.

When waste builds up, it begins to compact (impacted colon)...and you can develop a layer of mucosal plaque underneath the waste. Toxicity starts to build, acids in your colon increase and irritate your colon walls, and pathogenic / harmful bacteria begin to grow and proliferate. No different than it would in any garbage heap.

These nasty guys start taking over. Instead of helping properly DIGEST food, they FERMENT food which increases the toxic environment. This can eventually harm or kill the good bacteria...which are extremely important to your intestinal health.

Over time, your colon can expand up to 4 times its normal size and you look and feel bloated -- these toxins and acids can then overflow into other parts of your body over time -- it's called leaky gut. This then stresses your liver and practically every other organ as acidification spreads throughout your body.

Watch Part two of this video series titled "Colon Cleansing -- How to do it the right way " to learn HOW to properly rid your colon of compacted waste, acids, toxins, harmful bacteria, and mucosal plaque AND restore your colon... and your whole body...back to a healthy and vibrant state!
