Real Wedding Saturday: Brittany & Michael

por | | 0 comments

This week's real wedding was sent to me by the talented Cooper Carras, and not only was I excited because it's beautiful and looks like a ton of fun, but I was also flattered because the bride, Brittany, is a daily reader of Snippet & Ink and she specifically asked Cooper to share these with us! How fun is that! And as if the venue wasn't special enough, the weather could not possibly have provided a more beautiful day.

Brittany's dress was from Casablanca Bridal and her veil was handmade by Michael's mother. Brittany chose to use peonies because they were the same flower that her grandmother used at her wedding.

In lieu of dancing, guests were invited to play croquet after lunch. For a picture-perfect game, everyone on the croquet lawn wore whites and khakis.

Title: Molly Picon in The Wedding Scene from Yidl Mitn Fidl 1936 Yiddish film

from the 1936 Yiddish film YIDL MITN FIDL.
This was filmed once again in Kazimierz, Poland, using local inhabitants as extras. It took over thirty consecutive hours to film, and the food had to be kosher of course as the locals used were all Orthodox Jews. As the filming went on, they ate, and for the successive shots of the table the food had to be replenished. The poverty stricken guests just couldn't understand what was happening, as they thought they had been invited to a real wedding. When one woman asked why so much food they explained that it wasn't a real wedding - only a film. It is possible she had never seen a film, for she said: "Why didn't you tell me that before? With so much food, I could have brought my daughter to get married for real. She has a chassen (bridegroom) but we have no money for a dowry to make a proper wedding." Molly suspected her husband (Jacob Kalich) may have given the woman the money, as later she smiled at Picon and said "Are you lucky to have such a rich husband."
It's a sobering thought to think what would have happened to these people only a few short years later.

Embroidery Feature: Ring Pouches

por | | 0 comments

Embroidery Feature: Ring PouchesFor our final installment of embroidery week we wanted to share these adorably practical ring pouches! Let's face it, no one wants to trust their precious wedding bands to the little ring bearer (that's way too much responsibility for a little one!) so most couples entrust the best man to carry the rings. Now you don't want him to just toss the rings into his pocket do you?Heaven forbid he has a hole in his pocket! And you definitely don't want him to be walking around with the big bulky ring box... so these personalized ring pouches are the perfect solution. They can be embroidered with the couples new married monogram and date or you can put the bride's first initial on one with the date underneath and the groom's first initial on the other with the date (as shown above). Either way they're cute, personal, and a great way to keep your precious wedding bands safe. These are definitely one of our favorite picks!

We hope you've enjoyed all our embroidery week features and don't forget you have until 9/30 to get 10% off all the items in the new embroidery line- just use coupon code NEW10 at checkout!

Almost ready for improv

Almost ready for improv

Remember your first date? You wanted everything to be perfect; you packed your juiciest peaches 'n' cream Lip Smackers gloss, pinched your cheeks and tousled your hair the way girls do in movies. You primped and you preened and you obsessed.

That was me, getting ready for my first dinner guest. Forget that Ashleigh, my guest, came to this apartment before we even brought in furniture. It was going to be hard to blow her away since she helped pick out the dining table. But I still wanted to set a gorgeous table with Anthropologie napkins and my grandmother's trivet, serve a delish meal, wow her with my cheap wine and serve perfectly chilled chocolate raspberry mousse.

Here's how it really went:
I decided to serve baked three-cheese pasta, a recipe from "Anyone Can Cook." It is basically a glorified Mac-N-Cheese; it calls for pasta, butter, milk, American cheese, cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese.

I had hoped to attempt to make chocolate raspberry mousse, but that takes two hours to chill, and since I was busy from 9 a.m. this morning, that didn't happen.

I had barely dropped the ziti in the pot when Ashleigh came in. My timing was epically off. I preheated the oven too early, turned it off when I realized that, and forgot to preheat again. I underestimated the time it would take to: Make the pasta, preheat the oven, add the cheese and milk and butter, bake the pasta, stir it, bake some more and then cool for 10 minutes. I was practically buzzed off wine by the time we served the pasta!

Ashleigh, getting ready to enjoy my concoction.

The pasta was good; it was cheesy and filling, but not too much. But even though I followed the instructions to the T, it definitely needs some kick. Maybe chicken, or tomatoes, or bread crumbs on top, or ham, or bacon, or chives. Just ... something.

And Ashleigh was a great first dinner guest. She wasn't disappointed at my utter failure to wow her and surprise her with mousse and luckily, she enjoyed two scoops of Haagen Dazs Fleur de Sel caramel ice cream (OMG so good), so I felt like I was a good date.

Board #257: Sweet Buttercream

por | | 0 comments
I always love a sweet yellow wedding inspiration board, and this one may be my favorite yet. I love this pale yellow, buttercream yellow. What do you think of the idea of watering a young tree together, in lieu of a unity candle? I think it's such a sweet idea, and then you could plant the tree in the yard of your first home...

Mood: sweet, light
Palette: pale butter yellow, cream
