Once we got back from the hair salon there was a bunch of cold cuts waiting for us. All of the ladies sat at the dinning room table and had sandwiches while I tried to laugh away my nervousness.

We are so excited to share these we can hardly stand it. Rachelle came to us with a request for couture, chic, stylish logos for her new company. She wanted them to be feminine and she also mentioned incorporating damask or a chandelier... can we say dream client?!!! We loved all of these ideas and totally ran with them. L-O-V-E!!! Rachelle is currently waiting for all her copyrights and trademarks to go through so she asked that we not post the name of her new company yet (the real company name is pretty awesome and believe it or not these logos look even better with the real name!) so please note this is a fictitious name to protect our client's privacy. A lot of the WBC Brides have asked for instructions to make these magnets, which I used for my Save the Dates. It was really very simple.
Supplies: 1) 8 1/2 x 11 magnet sheets - Purchased from Oriental Trading Company 2) Card Stock - Mine measured 5 x 7 to fit into the envelopes I purchased. I bought the card stock at Michael's 3) Photo Corners - Michael's 4) Ribbon - Silver and White - Michael's 5) Glossy finish printer photo paper - Wal-mart 6) Hole punch
I designed The magnet in Microsoft Publisher measuring 3 x 4 and printed them on the photo paper. I cut out the "picture" using my fiskars paper cutter and set them aside. Then I cut the magnet sheets (they are peel and stick) using a heavy duty paper cutter at staples to also measure 3 x 4. The I peeled the paper off the magnet to expose the sticky side, slapped the picture on there and voila! A save the date magnet! I affixed the magnet to to the card stock using the photo corners and used the hole punch to make holes for the ribbon.

This is a mesmerizing demonstration of the diamegnetic effect discovered by Michael Faraday in 1845. It's small, but then again, so is the price. Invite your friends over, bet them you can make something levitate... And prove it.
To make one, you'll need 4 small RARE EARTH MAGNETS and a chip of PYROLITIC GRAPHITE. Graphite is a DIAMEGNETIC material which means, it repels magnetic forces. You repel magnetic forces too (or more accurately, the water in you does). If you had magnets powerful enough, you'd be able to levitate just like the graphite chip in the video.
The parts to make this are readily available on the internet and should cost between 5 and 10 dollars US.

Setting the magnets up in a square like those in the video is tricky, but becomes a lot easier if you attach them to a small piece of ferrous metal (I used an old watch part). The magnets will naturally want to flip to the proper, opposite corner orientation - 2 facing north up - 2 facing south up. Once you have them arranged, carefully lower the graphite chip onto the center.
The graphite won't fall, but Instead, will float above the magnets... And will remain there forever if you let it... No batteries required:-)

It uses (1) 65w solar panel, (1) 16a charge controller, (1) 1,200w inverter, and (8) 6v, 220 a/h golf cart batteries. Will run for approx 2 days without being charged.

The I.D.O. studio has been filled with so many pretty things! The first runner is for couple Courtney & Luis who chose to use monogram 13D. The three initial parasol is for couple Jennifer & Kyle. The second runner is for couple Ivy & Colin who chose to use monogram 15A. The bottom two parasols are actually for two different brides who happened to have the same last initial and ordered their single initial parasols in the same font (#8) and color, what a coincidence! Jonathan Canlas is one of my favorite photographers, and it's fun to finally have a chance to feature his work on Snippet & Ink. Holly and Mario's wedding is sweet and full of personal touches, and Jonathan captured it beautifully. In Holly's words: The number one thing I'm happiest about are the pictures! Jonathan is truly talented and we absolutely love his work. We've gotten compliments from complete strangers (friends of friends) who have seen the photos. He captured everything in a way that made it seem ten times more beautiful than it was and Mario and I will look back on those pictures for decades to come.
The September wedding took place in Orland, California at Mario's family's plum orchard.
From Holly: The driving force behind most of our decisions was that we really wanted to keep our wedding as personal, simple and eco-friendly as possible within our budget, which is no easy task! We also wanted to include as many of our friends and family in the process, drawing on their many talents and really making the day special to us and to them. We couldn't think of a better place to have it than the property where Mario grew up, with its beautiful orchards and interesting photo ops.
Holly wore a veil by Twigs & Honey (available on Etsy and at The English Department in Portland, Oregon). Mario's best friend's sister, a stylist in San Francisco, did all of the hair and makeup.
Mario and each of the groomsmen wore their own suits and shoes. The groomsmen wore ties from Brooks Brothers that were a gift from the couple.

The bridesmaids purple dresses from Nordstrom echoed the plum motif.
Holly wore plum colored shoes by Chie Mihara and a custom made dress by Elizabeth Dye. As Holly says: It was important to me to support a local independent businesswoman. I highly, highly, highly recommend Elizabeth!
The wedding was catered by Bacio Catering, and their catering coordinator, Melissa Brown, also acted as event coordinator for the day. Holly's uncle arranged all of the flowers for the day.
The tent was rented from AA Tent Rental in Corning, California.
Holly and Mario chose to do a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Holly says, We had the tea ceremony privately in the house as the reception went on. My Aunt Roberta loaned me the red mandarin collared dress that she wore for HER tea ceremony 22 years ago - it was gorgeous! Going through such a traditional ceremony with our family was more meaningful to me than the other ceremony and it meant a lot to my family.
Our mothers and grandmothers each baked a cake that we grew up eating to collectively make our "wedding cake" - we had my mom's pistachio cake, his mom's rum cake, my grandmother's lemon cake, and his Nani's german chocolate cake. We back-filled with sheet cake from Mim's Bakery in Chico. Each of the family cakes was on display using adorable America Retold cakestands.
My favorite moment, hands down, was the very last song of the night - I've Had the Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing, one of my favorite movies. My biggest advice to any other bride: eat your dinner and stay cognizant of what's going on around you, it's easy to get lost in the commotion and not have time to relax and enjoy the experience. My biggest regret is not getting the chance to talk to each and every guest personally.
