I not-so-secretly have a major crush on the fellas in "Mad Men." How much do you love this bridal party made up of men in gray suits? I'm kind of hoping this is what Sean and his man friends will look like the day I walk down the aisle.
I have a weakness for balloons. When I was a child, my mother used to rent "The Red Balloon" and I loved it. One of my most vivid memories is visiting Disneyworld for the first time and desperately hoping my mom would buy me one of the Mickey Mouse-head balloons (she didn't psychically realize this, and bought a foil balloon instead!). I would love to recapture my youth with this necklace from Yellow Goat on etsy.
In other blog housekeeping news, I will be starting a new job on Monday. How will this affect the blog? Well, it means the cooking updates may get kind of weird, but tackle a new domestication challenge: cooking for two when the people in question work opposite hours. I will be working 9 to 5 and Sean works 3 to 11:30ish. Never fear, friends, I will still be updating faithfully and hopefully some of you will join me for dinner so I can keep learning!

Title: Learning To Let Go [FINALE...PART 2]
I KNOW ITS SUPER SHORT BUT I HAD TO SPLIT IT IN TWO!
-----------------------
Joe was at Kevin and Sam's helping them set up for Lexi's 5th birthday party. He took a seat on the couch and started blowing up balloons. Little Lexi came storming into the living room with a pink princess dress that nick and joe had given her for her party. She jumped next to Joe on the couch.
Lexi: whatcha doin!
Joe: blowing up balloons for your party.
Lexi: but I don't like balloons.
Joe: [let go of a balloon and let it fly off] are you kidding me. Munchkin you told me you wanted balloons. Specifically yellow ones remember.
Lexi: but I don't want them anymore.
Joe: if you weren't so cute then I would be mad. [tickled her until she begged for mercy]
Lexi: [smiled at Joe] its cuz you love me too much.
Joe: you're right. Hey I have something special for you for your birthday.
Lexi: oooh! Surprise! I love surprises.
Joe: [pulled out a necklace. It was Alexi's old heart diamond necklace that Joe kept] here.
Lexi: its pretty!
Joe: it was your aunt Lexi's.
Lexi: [eyes widened] really!
Joe: yep.
Lexi: [sat on Joes lap] can you tell me about her again.
Joe: I've already told you the story.
Lexi: but say it again. I like hearing it. [she cuddled next to her uncle who wrapped his arm around her. She felt so safe]
Joe: ok. Well where do you want me to start.
Lexi: tell me about how you met her. I like that part.
Joe: [laughed] ok. I was at my friend mikes party with nick and your dad. She walked in with your mom and tiff and my eyes instantly shot towards her. She was beautiful. Ya know you look a lot like her.
Lexi: I do?
Joe: yep.
Lexi: ok keep going.
Joe went on and told little Lexi the story of her aunt. She loved hearing how much her uncle love her. It was the best story ever.

Don't you just love how couple Samantha & Kevin used their monogram parasols to flank their aisle? Super creative and so pretty. This couple was married on October 4, 2008 at their home in Merced, California. Thank you Samantha & Kevin for sharing these beautiful photos with us!
A Note from Samantha:"I loved our monogram parasols and when we were finished with the ceremony we placed them near the guest book table with flowers and candles that glowed into the evening. They were elegant and beautiful!"

Title: Molly Picon in The Wedding Scene from Yidl Mitn Fidl 1936 Yiddish film
from the 1936 Yiddish film YIDL MITN FIDL.
This was filmed once again in Kazimierz, Poland, using local inhabitants as extras. It took over thirty consecutive hours to film, and the food had to be kosher of course as the locals used were all Orthodox Jews. As the filming went on, they ate, and for the successive shots of the table the food had to be replenished. The poverty stricken guests just couldn't understand what was happening, as they thought they had been invited to a real wedding. When one woman asked why so much food they explained that it wasn't a real wedding - only a film. It is possible she had never seen a film, for she said: "Why didn't you tell me that before? With so much food, I could have brought my daughter to get married for real. She has a chassen (bridegroom) but we have no money for a dowry to make a proper wedding." Molly suspected her husband (Jacob Kalich) may have given the woman the money, as later she smiled at Picon and said "Are you lucky to have such a rich husband."
It's a sobering thought to think what would have happened to these people only a few short years later.
Folks. I'm officially in bridezilla mode. Send warm wishes Sean's way, because bless his heart, has he got a whiner talking his ear off.
So, when I imagined my wedding, here is what I pictured: ceremony under the trees, reception in a magical garden with white lights, a dance floor with cafe lights and people dancing under the stars. Not too hard, right? Right?
The perfect place exists, but was out of my price range. When we saw the Mariners Museum, it seemed like the right place for both. But then I slowly started going crazy.
I couldn't fathom how to have the ceremony AND the reception, back-to-back, in the same location. How would the event staff be able to set up for the reception? How could the caterers do their job without disrupting the ceremony? What would the guests do while event staff move stuff around?
And what about standing under the trees? What happened to that part?
Friday was my pre-one-year anniversary (yes, crazy I know), so in honor of that, I made a decision once and for all. Here's the plan:
The reception will still take place at the Mariners Museum, but only the reception so we can make full use of the space. The plan is for the dance floor to go in the grass there, with the DJ table on that little bit of patio.
Hopefully the bar setup will go over here, near the fountain.
This picture is from around the hour the reception will begin. Gorgeous, no?
And the reception will be just outside, in a little grove of trees next to the Peninsula Fine Arts Center. Is it crazy to have multiple outdoor venues? Yes. But will I sleep better at night now? Hopefully yes.
The rows of chairs (with aisle in the middle) will go here, bordered by the trees.
Yes, I am crazy. Let's all pray we don't have to put the rain plan into effect!

Title: Worse than Bridezilla - the HST attacks BC summer weddings
VICTORIA - It's June, and that means wedding season is in full swing.
But this summer, perhaps the only thing worse than an attack of the Bridezilla blues is the attack of the HST.
For many couples, the tax is showing up as an uninvited guest to many receptions and adding thousands to the final bill.
How does the HST fiscally dampen the special day?
Weddings are all about service: so hair, nails makeup will cost seven per cent more, along with catering, the cost of renting a hall, and hiring a wedding planner to pull it all together.
Still, couples tying the knot this summer can look forward to something old, that was the PST.
Something new: that's the new HST.
Something borrowed, about $2.8 billion worth that's the BC deficit, and something blue: that sinking feeling when the bill comes.

I've always thought that Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller were a very stylish pair, even if it seemed like an unlikely match. I saw a picture of their wedding in a magazine years ago that said Marilyn hand-dyed her veil with tea to match her ivory dress. I like how, even though they were '50s megastars, they had a casual, yet chic, wedding.

This is a suite I started working on in January! Stephanie and Alex knew they wanted me to create their wedding invitations so we started early. We've kept in touch and finally finished up a couple weeks ago. The couple has a damask motif throughout their wedding with green, black and white colors.
As I prepare for my wedding, so many of the details are ripped right from my favorite party I ever organized a going-away party for my friends Ryan and Mark in the summer of 2007. The party was held at Ryan's home in Rockbridge County, Va. and couldn't have ever happened without a dedicated group of friends who spent the day decorating. My good friend, Sara taught us all how to make fabulous tissue paper flowers, which we tucked into glass soda bottles.
I bought all of these mason jars to drink from; I'm planning to use mason jars for centerpieces, votives and lanterns at my wedding. Amanda and our friend, Ashleigh, took it upon themselves to hammer individual designs into the lids, which was such a lovely and personal touch.
Since the party was deep in the country, Ryan's parents provided tents for our overnight guests.
This is our romance tree, filled with battery-operated paper lanterns and paper flowers.
Isn't that lovely against the Virginia mountains?
Inspired by Lena Corwin's wedding, I set up this Polaroid photo booth. If Polaroid film is still available, I'd love to do it again for my wedding.
Gotta love the light of the magic hour.
I scoured thrift shops for antique postcards, which I pinned to this plant along with a note instructing guests to use a "farewell type of sentiment."
We finished the night with sparklers and chugged cheap apple wine. It was perfect and I can only hope my wedding is as much fun. By the way, all of the photos are by Ryan Burke Photography.

Title: Your Business Card Strategy
Your Business Card Strategy
Do you have a Business Card Strategy? Most business professionals answer is no. Your business card is so important, often a prospects first impressions of you, and the marketing item used the most, yet business professionals put so little thought into its creation.
So how do you say enough in this small amount of space to make your business card important for a prospect or contact to remember you? Twitter has taught us that you can say quite a bit in 140 characters, so making your business card relevant to your prospects and contacts can be done.
Lets examine a Business Card Strategy created by Chris The Coach Ruisi for his clients. We will need The Coach to answer the following questions to create our own Business Card Strategy.
JF: Thanks Coach for appearing on the show. Why is it important to create a strategy when putting together your business card?
The Coach: Your business card is your first impression, it is common sense that professionals should spend some time to evaluate what is the correct message and contact information that should appear on their business card. Professionals without a business card strategy risk having the wrong message being sent to prospects.
JF: What contact information needs to be included on your business card?
The Coach: The basic contact information of Name, Title, Address, Telephone, E-mail, and Fax, and if space is available a Social Networking Contact.
JF: How important is the quality of paper and ink used?
The Coach: Your Business Card should be of good quality, it is not necessary to have the absolute best. Poor quality cards are a very bad reflection and probably go in the trash. Professionals should make it a habit to invest in themselves.
JF: How can I make my business card a marketing tool and not something prospects throw in the trash?
The Coach: It is your message that defines what need you fill and why someone should keep your contact information. Take the time to put together a correct and meaningful message.
JF: What if anything should I include on the back of my business card?
The Coach: The back of your business card should have some space to write notes. Writing notes not only helps you remember, but sends a message to your prospect that you care enough to take notes. The back of your business card can also be used to help define what role you fill.
JF: Thanks so much Coach, any closing comments to assist our readers in creating their own Business Card Strategy?
The Coach: Your business card is often your first impression; take the time to create a professional and meaningful message. Dont go cheap on the quality and message of your business card.
