Real Wedding Saturday: Brittany & Michael

por | | 0 comments

This week's real wedding was sent to me by the talented Cooper Carras, and not only was I excited because it's beautiful and looks like a ton of fun, but I was also flattered because the bride, Brittany, is a daily reader of Snippet & Ink and she specifically asked Cooper to share these with us! How fun is that! And as if the venue wasn't special enough, the weather could not possibly have provided a more beautiful day.

Brittany's dress was from Casablanca Bridal and her veil was handmade by Michael's mother. Brittany chose to use peonies because they were the same flower that her grandmother used at her wedding.

In lieu of dancing, guests were invited to play croquet after lunch. For a picture-perfect game, everyone on the croquet lawn wore whites and khakis.

Title: Molly Picon in The Wedding Scene from Yidl Mitn Fidl 1936 Yiddish film

from the 1936 Yiddish film YIDL MITN FIDL.
This was filmed once again in Kazimierz, Poland, using local inhabitants as extras. It took over thirty consecutive hours to film, and the food had to be kosher of course as the locals used were all Orthodox Jews. As the filming went on, they ate, and for the successive shots of the table the food had to be replenished. The poverty stricken guests just couldn't understand what was happening, as they thought they had been invited to a real wedding. When one woman asked why so much food they explained that it wasn't a real wedding - only a film. It is possible she had never seen a film, for she said: "Why didn't you tell me that before? With so much food, I could have brought my daughter to get married for real. She has a chassen (bridegroom) but we have no money for a dowry to make a proper wedding." Molly suspected her husband (Jacob Kalich) may have given the woman the money, as later she smiled at Picon and said "Are you lucky to have such a rich husband."
It's a sobering thought to think what would have happened to these people only a few short years later.

Title: Alex Jones Tv {Sunday Edition} 1/8:Pelosi "Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail"

House Committee On Ways & Means Republicans
November 7, 2009
http://prisonplanet.tv/
Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bills new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: This is the ultimate example of the Democrats command-and-control style of governing buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.

Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax. [page 1]

If the government determines that the taxpayers unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply [page 2]

Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years. [page 3]

When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosis decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare, said Camp.

According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speakers bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

Congratulations to our April Featured Couple Jessica & Ben who were married in September '08 in Topsfield, MA. Words cannot even begin to express how much we adore these photos from Jessica & Ben's wedding! We created their custom aisle runner using monogram 1D, which the couple also used on their ceremony programs. They also used monogram 5C which we created for them on their matches for their cigar bar (yes they had a cigar bar, so cool!) It looks like this wedding was a blast- check out their cool "something blue" drinks, their yummy food, and they even had a photo booth! Also be sure to pick up a copy of TheKnot Best Of 2009 Weddings as their aisle runner is featured in it, yay! Congratulations Jessica & Ben!

A Note From Jessica: "I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful our experience with you was. Our monogram was our "theme" and it carried through to all elements of our big day....wedding invitation, programs, runner, matchboxes....etc....AND our thank you card was a huge hit!"

Ikea, how I love thee

por | | 0 comments

Today after I dropped my parents off at the airport I was sad that they were leaving so I decided to do some retail therapy. I have been meaning to get more pictures for the house so I decided to try Ikea (via a friends recommendation). I got a really good deal on several prints that are proudly displayed in my living room.

Living Room_1
Stretched Canvas Print, it's large but it fits perfectly behind the couch

Board #257: Sweet Buttercream

por | | 0 comments
I always love a sweet yellow wedding inspiration board, and this one may be my favorite yet. I love this pale yellow, buttercream yellow. What do you think of the idea of watering a young tree together, in lieu of a unity candle? I think it's such a sweet idea, and then you could plant the tree in the yard of your first home...

Mood: sweet, light
Palette: pale butter yellow, cream
