The Deal of a LIFETIME

por | | 0 comments

My friend Brian has been getting into photography over the last year and has been thinking about updating his camera body. I asked him if he was thinking of trading in his old stuff that I would like to buy it off of him. Originally I was thinking about getting only the camera and the kit lens, but he kept adding things.

This is what is coming in the box that he hopefully shipped today

1) One Canon Digital Rebel xsi camera with kit lens Amazon Retail Price $750
2) One Canon EF 50mm f1.4 lens Amazon Retail Price $520
3) One Canon EF-S 55-250 f/4.0-5.6 IS zoom lens Amazon Retail Price $299.99
4) One copy of photoshop 7 Amazon Retail Price $699.99
5) One gig bag (retails at $100.00)
6) Two extra Memory cards and an extra lithium ion battery
7) A tripod

Total price to buy it retail - around $2300. I'm buying everything for $1200 including shipping. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

Anyone else out there into photography? I want some suggestions as to where to start. I want to take an online class at BetterPhoto.com and get some books. But I guess what's really going to help me is pratice pratice pratice!

Look out for ALOT more pictures on this blog!

He runs for his life but gets frozen by Maleficent. Before he can be recaptured, Hades demands that Scar be released or he will revive Aurora which takes away Maleficent's opportunity for revenge. Maleficent realizes that she has been defeated and leaves. Hades transports Scar to the Underworld and tries to tell him to recapture Hercules. A splash of color: Erie Basin ring

A splash of color: Erie Basin ring
Is it wrong to really want this ring as my wedding band? This gem is an 1830s Georgian turquoise ring available at Erie Basin, which is, btw, the most well-edited jewelry store on the web. Everything is unique, mysterious and even a little macabre, like the jewelry came out of an Edward Gorey drawing.

$385, size 8 (JUST MY SIZE!)

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

por | | 0 comments
One of my Husband's groomsman (and also a dear friend of mine) Julien, is deployed with a naval ship out of Everett, Washington. He has been gone for awhile and I decided to send him a care package. In it I have put letters, some dried fruit and some of his favorite cookies!

Chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
source:The New Best Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 16 tablespoons (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened but cool
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  1. Adjust the oven racks to the low and middle positions and heat the oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper or spray them with nonstick cooking spray
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt together in a medium bowl
  3. Either by hand or using an electric mixer, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy. Add the sugars; beat until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in the eggs, one at a time
  4. Stir the dry ingredients unto the butter-sugar mixture with a wooden spoon or large rubber spatula. Stir in the oats and raisins.
  5. Working with a generous tablespoon of dough each time, roll the dough into 2-inch balls and place on baking sheets, spacing them at least 2 inches apart
  6. Bake until cookie edges turn golden brown, 22 to 25 minutes, rotating the baking sheets from front to back and top to bottom halfway through the cooking time. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer the cookies with a wide metal spatula to a wire rack. Let cool at least 30 minutes.

Cinnamon Oatmeal Raisin Pancakes

Pancakes with a twist of oatmeal, cinnamon and raisins. These are fantastic!

Active Time: 10 min
Total Time: 30 min
Serves: 4

Step 1: Making the Batter

* 2 whole eggs
* 2 tbsp. brown sugar (or maple syrup)
* 2 tsp. vanilla
* 3 tbsp. canola oil
* 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
* 1/3 cup raisins
* 2 cups low fat buttermilk (or plain yogurt)
* 3/4 cup flour
* 1/2 tsp. baking soda
* 2 pinches nutmeg
* 1/2 tsp. baking powder
* 2 pinches cinnamon
* 1/2 tsp. salt

Whisk together eggs, brown sugar, vanilla and oil. Add the oatmeal, raisins, and milk. Mix and set aside. In a separate bowl mix together flour, baking soda, nutmeg, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Mix wet ingredients into the dry. Stir until the dry ingredients are just incorporated, do not over mix.

Step 2: Cooking the Pancakes

* 1 tbsp. oil or butter

Turn heat to medium-high and lightly oil your griddle or frying pan. Ladle batter onto griddle keeping in mind that this batter is thicker than regular pancakes and will need to cook longer before flipping. The pancakes are ready to flip when the tops look less wet and shiny. Cook a couple minutes on the other side. Serve immediately with warm maple syrup.

Paging Dr. Amber

por | | 0 comments

Two days ago, I felt a little phlegm in my throat and I told Sean I was going to get sick.
Yesterday, my throat was a little sore.
Last night, my neck felt like it couldn't support my head and I was rapidly developing a sinus headache.
This morning, I felt like my body was its normal size and my head was a Goodyear blimp. Stuffy, achy, sneazy, runny — you know the drill.

So I did what I always do. I broke out the patented "Amber Cure-All for Common Head Cold." Now, I don't think any of this is enlightening, but I swear, I always follow this regimen and I'm never sick for longer than two-to-three days (just watch; I'll be sick for a month now that I said that).

Paging Dr. Amber

When I wake up with a sore throat, I start small. These are practically industrial-strength Vick's cough drops, and they really do soothe fairly quickly. Now, that doesn't mean I can turn around and eat Tostitos or popcorn. It just means I can swallow slightly better.

Paging Dr. Amber

If I have to go somewhere, or stay alert for most of the day, then I pop a Sudafed. I hate swallowing pills, so the teeny tiny Sudafed is awesome for me. Funnily enough, whenever I give Sean a Sudafed, he gets worse. Whatevs.

Paging Dr. Amber

If I don't have to be anywhere important, then I bust out the Dayquil. Supposedly, Dayquil is non-drowsy. But, as my friends and family can attest, there is no such thing as "non-drowsy" for me. EVERYTHING knocks me out. I used to have fever dreams on Dimetapp!

I once came home from school, gave myself some Dimetapp and laid down on the couch for a nap. When my mother woke me up at 8 for dinner, I freaked out, insisted we were missing school and demanded she make me breakfast because I thought it was 8 a.m. the following day. She literally had to talk me down. So that's why I can only take Dayquil when I don't have to be at work. I took some today and multiple times, my head just kind of collapsed backward while I was sitting on the couch. But it works; my neck and throat still hurt a little, but I feel way better.

ALSO: If you're like me, and you get insanely achy, try the Thermocare heating pads for neck and shoulders. It really works, at least temporarily, and they sell a sample size for $2.99.

Paging Dr. Amber

This part is crucial: tomato soup (I like mine with a little parmesan). Forget chicken noodle; tomato soup is smooth, creamy, filling and can easily be dressed up or dressed down. It also doesn't have creepy, tiny chunks of chicken that you have to go fishing to find. If you're really stuffy, try chicken tortilla soup (I especially love the soup at Cheddar's); the spices will definitely clear those nasal passages.

Paging Dr. Amber

Finally, I skip the herbal tea with the honey and lemon that everyone always suggests. That's all fine and well, but chai is so much more decadent and deliciouso. ESPECIALLY when served in my beloved "Elvis Lives" mug from Graceland.

The only other tip I have: double fist orange juice and water throughout the day. I don't know why I think that works; it just makes me feel better, like I have control over the situation.

So, what are your superstitious get-better-quick tips? What did mom always do for you when your throat hurt or your tummy ached?

Board #257: Sweet Buttercream

por | | 0 comments
I always love a sweet yellow wedding inspiration board, and this one may be my favorite yet. I love this pale yellow, buttercream yellow. What do you think of the idea of watering a young tree together, in lieu of a unity candle? I think it's such a sweet idea, and then you could plant the tree in the yard of your first home...

Mood: sweet, light
Palette: pale butter yellow, cream

Title: Adele. Tired. TRADUCIDA

lyric:

Hold my hand
While you cut me down
It had only just begun
But now it's over now
And your
In the heat of moments
With your heart
Playing up cold
I'm between the middle
Watching hastiness unfold
In my eyes
Your were smiling
In the spotlight dancing
With the night
The night fell
Off your mind

I'm tired of trying
Your teasing ain't enough
Fed up of biding your time
When i dont get nothing back
And for and for and for
When i don't get nothing back
Boy, i'm tired

Where'd you go
When you stay behind
I looked up and inside down
And outside only to find
A double taking punching hard
And laughing at my smile
I get closer you
Obviously prefer her

Chorus:
I'm tired of trying
Your teasing ain't enough
Fed up of biding your time
When i don't get nothing back
And for and for and for
When i dont get nothing back
Boy, i'm tired of trying
Your teasing aint enough
Fed up of biding your time
When i don't get nothing back
And for and for and for
When i don't get nothing back
Boy, i'm tired

(I should have known)

Never mind said
Your open arms
I couldn't help
Belive the trick me
Back into them

LETRA:

Sujetas mi mano mientras me humillas
no recibo nada a cambio, chico, estoy cansada.
Donde habrás ido cuando te has quedado atrás
He mirado arriba y abajo y a fuera sólo para descubrir
un fuerte doble golpe y te mofas de mi sonrisa
Me acerco pero tú la prefieres a ella.
Estoy cansada de notar que me tomas el pelo y ya tengo bastante
Harta de esperar a que llegue el momento adecuado
no recibo nada a cambio, chico, estoy cansada.
(Lo debería haber sabido)
Tus brazos abiertos me dijeron no pasa nada
No podía creer otra vez tu engaño
Estoy cansada de notar que me tomas el pelo y ya tengo bastante
Harta de esperar que llegue el momento adecuado
no recibo nada a cambio, chico, estoy cansada.
